Men's Hoops Tripped Up By Vassar, 72-66

George Keener had a game high 27 points.

Rochester, NY– The men's basketball team slipped to 0-3 after falling to Vassar by a score of 72-66 to cap the Mike Daley Memorial Tournament.

George Keener led all scorers with a season high 27 points on 7-13 shooting from the field, 2-3 from three point land and 11-13 from the charity stripe. Jonah Bevacqua was the only other Hawk in double digit scoring with 16 points while seven other players registered at least one point.

It was a slow-moving, back and fourth affair in the first half and the Purple and Gold found themselves up by five at 15-10, thanks to a layup from Barrett Lowe with 8:52 showing on the clock. With the score knotted at 26, Vassar closed out the remaining 2:39 with six unanswered points to take a 32-26 lead at the half.

The deficit grew to as much as 12 points in the second half, but Hunter did not go away easily. Bevacqua drilled a trey to make it a four point game with 37 seconds remaining. After trading two free throws each on the ensuing possessions, Gio Gabbidon missed a three point attempt which resulted in a Vassar rebound. Down by six after Hugh Durham's made free throw, the Hawks were unable to put together a last second effort resulting in a loss.

The Hawks continue to search for their first win on Wednesday, November 20 when they play their first home game, hosting St. Joseph's-Long Island. Tip off is slated for a 7pm start.
