New York, NY – The women's basketball team fell to Rowan, 94-57 in the Hunter Tip-Off Championship game. Despite three players in double figures, the Hawks were unable to come out of a 15-point, first quarter deficit. The Purple and Gold move to 1-2 on the season.
Janine Conway was the game high scorer with 24 points on 9-20 shooting from the field and added seven boards in the effort.
Phoebe Valenton added 11 points while
Madison LaSalle was an efficient 4-8 from the floor with two triples for 10 points in just 18 minutes of action.
The Hawks fell behind early and were unable to connect a on their last eight field goals over the final seven minutes of the quarter, ultimately resulting in a 15 point uphill battle heading into the second. Two back-to-back steals resulting in fast break layups from LaSalle and Conway in the second brought the Purple and Gold to within 12 points but it's as close as they would get. Rowan used a 9-0 run to head into halftime with a 50-27 cushion.
The point differential would be too much for Hunter to come back from. They fell behind further in the third and managed to score just 15 points in the fourth quarter, the same amount they scored in the previous two, resulting in the loss.
The squad looks to get back on track on Friday, November 22 when they travel to Ewing, NJ to take on The College of New Jersey. Tip-off is slated for a 5pm start.
