Men's Soccer Downed by John Jay in CUNYAC Finals in Penalty Kicks

The game went through two overtimes and 10 rounds of penalty kicks before a winner was determined

Brooklyn, NY – The #2 men's soccer team took on the #5 seeded Bloodhounds of John Jay earlier this evening on the campus of Brooklyn College for the CUNYAC Championship Title. In a contest that came down to penalty kicks after a scoreless affair through two overtimes, it was the underdogs that snagged the victory in a 7-6 penalty shootout. The Hawks conclude the season as the CUNYAC runner up and a record of 8-7-2.

The Purple and Gold registered 17 total shots during the game, including eight of them on goal while their counterparts launched 12, six of which were on target. Hunter did not have a single corner kick attempt while the Bloodhounds took six.

Scoreless through the first 45 minutes, the Hawks had a golden opportunity in the second in the 68th minute. Jesus Patino Munoz was fouled inside the box resulting in a penalty kick. The senior's attempt sailed just high over the crossbar, keeping the game knotted at 0-0. Over the ensuing two overtime periods, Hunter's offense produced six shots with half of them on goal.

In the 98th and 105th minutes, Patino Munoz's attempts on goal were stopped by John Jay keeper, Steven Towler.  Arman Zamanzadeh also had a last minute attempt but he was also met with a save. After 110 minutes of scoreless action, the two teams headed into penalty kicks to decide the outcome.

The Hawks were up first and missed on their initial attempt to put the pressure on. With John Jay going ahead 1-0, Hunter's Noah Dougherty made a big stop on the third attempt to allow his team to tie it up. Regis Enama did just that as he beat Towler to make it 3-3. With the shootout score tied at six apiece, Dougherty made another huge stop on Michael Demarco's attempt to keep the Hawks alive. However, Leonel Brito took Hunter's 10th attempt but came up empty. It was Aly Jahin who took the final shot for John Jay and found the back of the net.

Dougherty made six saves in the 110 minute grudge match.
