Hunter goes 1-1 on Saturday vs Colby and #17 Tufts

Hawks pick up another five set win vs Colby but drop one to Tufts in four

Medford, MA- The women's volleyball team split their tri-match over the weekend hosted by Tufts University. They defeated Colby in five sets but fell toTufts in a tough four-set match as they move to 13-17 overall.

Numerous season and career bests were set during the match, as Curran Murray and Isabelle Lawrence both set season highs for kills in the win. The two combined for 29 kills while both hitting over .300. Vanessa Sanchez set her career high for digs with 17 in the contest. Kylie Hurst continued to lead the Hawks offensively chipping in 17 kills to go along with a match high 25 digs. Justine Smith led the Purple and Gold offense with 47 assists while notching a double-double.
 
Hunter took the first set by the score of 25-21.  The Hawks offense came out firing on all cylinders registering 17 kills and no hitting errors on the way to hitting .386 as a team.
 
Colby would bounce back in the second set to tie the match at 1-1 winning by a score of 25-21. The Hawks started out the set strong building a 10-7 lead but a 5 point run by Colby in the middle of the set proved to be too much of a deficit for the Hawks.
 
The Hawks rebounded in the 3rd set winning by a score of 25-20. Both defenses settled in as both teams struggled to side out. The set went back and forth as the teams were notted at 15-15. Hunter's Mariam Ouattara went on a 3 point service run to give the Hawks an 18-15 lead. This turned out to be the difference has Colby never got closer than two points the rest of the set.
 
Colby responded again in the 4th set with a score of 25-22 to take the match to a deciding 5th set. Hunter got down early in the set and despite a late five point run on Curran Murray's serve to bring the score to 22-23 the Hawks never managed to take the lead.
 
 The fifth set was all Hunter from the start, jumping out to an 8-1 lead registering 6 kills early on. The two teams traded points the rest of the way. Hurst finished the match with a service ace; improving Hunters record to 8-2 in five set matches.
 
Tufts Recap
Hurst again lead the Hawks offensively with 11 kills to go along with a team best 14 digs. Isabelle Lawrence and Mariam Ouattara each added 7 kills for the Hawks as well. Sunghee Cho added 12 digs for the Hawks.
 
Despite finding themselves in a 2-0 hole, suffering scores of 25-10 and 25-12, the Hawks bounced back in the third. After struggling offensively the first two sets Hunter's offense came alive hitting .320 to win by a score of 25-14. Summer Magliochetti was a spark for Hunter off the bench recording 6 assists in the set. The Hawks would take an early lead and would never give it up on their way to the decisive set victory.
The fourth set Tufts proved to be too much jumping out to a 16-6 lead. The Hawks continued to battle until the end as Jennifer Ryan put down a kill to finish the set at 25-10.
 
The Hawks return to action on Friday November 8th at 3:30 for the CUNYAC semifinals. Should they win their match they will play in the finals of the conference tournament at 8pm.
