62-50 Win Over Gallaudet Snaps Women's Hoops Skid

Janine Conway and Isabella Santos had 13 points apiece.

Washington DC – The women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid yesterday after defeating Gallaudet University by a score of 62-50 in a non-conference matchup. Backed by a hot start that included a 23-point first quarter performance, the Hawks took the lead from the get-go and never looked back.

Isabella Santos and Janine Conway had an even split of 26 points while teammate Maya Thompson registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. The Purple and Gold shot over 47 percent from the field and went 6-15 from deep. Additionally, they took advantage of 25 Gallaudet turnovers and turned them into 24 points.

Hunter wasted no time on the offensive side of the ball, pouring in 14 points in the opening 3:18 with half of them coming from the hands of Conway. The hosts struggled during the entire first 10 minutes, going just 3-13 from the floor and turning the ball over nine times. Morgan Gress capped the quarter with a trey to make it a 23-6 affair heading into the second. Despite being outscored by an eight point margin in the second, Hunter still held a nine-point cushion headed into halftime.

Hunter rattled off a 12-2 run that spanned 6:52 to go ahead 47-30. The 17 point margin proved to be more than enough to last through the end of the game. Their largest lead came with 2:39 left on the clock in the fourth after Kristina Krslovic knocked down a three-pointer to make it a 19 point game. When all was said and done, the final buzzer sounded and the Hawks got back on the winning track with the 62-50 win to close out the month of November.

Up next, Hunter will open up CUNYAC play with a home game on Tuesday, December 3 against Medgar Evers College. Tip-off is slated for a 5pm start.
