New York, NY- The women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers 93-43 to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Hawks came out with an explosive 35 point first quarter to take control early.
Madison LaSalle led the team in scoring with 22 points on 10-15 shooting from the field. Phebe Valenton was extremely efficient scoring 20 points in only 10 minutes on the court.
Nicole Ballin had a game-high 15 rebounds while
Kristina Krslovic led the team with five assists.
The purple and gold scored the first 14 points of the game to set the tone. Hunter would continue to stretch the lead as a free throw by
Kimberly Lau made the score 35-9 at the end of the quarter. Hunter dominated the second quarter as well to go into the locker room with a 58-16 edge. The Hawks shot 59% from the field while forcing Medgar into 17 first half turnovers.
The second half proved to be more competitive as Medgar outscored Hunter 17-16 in the third quarter. Hunter started the fourth win an 8-0 run capped by a layup by Ballin. A free throw by
Pearl Mensah ended the scoring as Hunter ended with a 93-43 victory. The victory has the Hawks undefeated to start conference play as they look to defend their conference championship from last season.
The Hawks will be back in action for Homecoming this Friday December 6
th at 5pm against Baruch College. Athletics is hosting a pep-rally that will begin at 4pm in the west lobby.
