Madison, NJ – Despite two players scoring at least 20 points, the men's basketball team suffered an 86-77 loss on Tuesday night to the Devils of Farleigh Dickinson-Florham. In defeat, Hunter slides to 1-7 overall while FDU moves to 4-5 on the year.
George Keener led the offense for Hunter with 24 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, going 9-18 and 3-6 from deep while connecting on each of his three free throw attempts. He added 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Luka Jakic had a breakout game, scoring 20 points on 7-11 from the field and adding eight rebounds in the loss. Meanwhile,
Jonah Bevacqua chipped in with 14 points on the night.
The Purple and Gold played well, winning the battle of the boards, 37-36, and taking care of the ball, turning it over just eight times while tallying six steals, three blocks and forcing 13 turnovers. However, it was the Devil's hot shooting, specifically from behind the arc, that ultimately proved the difference in the game. FDU drilled 13 threes on 20 attempts in the first and closed the game with 20 total triples. Their shooting percentage from deep was greater than their shooting percentage from the floor.
Despite the 13 triples in the first half from the hosts, Hunter held their own. Between Bevacqua, Jakic and Keener, the trio accounted for 33 of their 46 first half points while the team overall shot nearly 60 percent from the floor. Heading into halftime, they found themselves down by just one point.
However, it was a different story in the second. They committed seven turnovers and scored just 31 points while FDU's Andy Fleurantin went off for 26 points which included six of his team's seven three pointers. Hunter was unable to match the hosts offensive output resulting in their seventh loss of the season.
The Hawks will have a quick turnaround and are back in action on Wednesday evening when they host NYU at the Sportsplex at 7pm.
