Jade Aponte finished with 30 points in the Hunter College women's basketball victory over the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night, taking down the Dolphins with a score of 71-62.
Hunter improved to 13-9 and 12-1 in conference play, while CSI is now 11-3 in the league.
Aponte immediately went to work for the Hawks, scoring 11 of Hunter's 22 points in the first quarter. The Purple and Gold also found points from
Janine Conway,
Ashley Arias,
Christine Patterson and
Phoebe Valenton to take a 22-11 lead.
Aponte opened up the second quarter with a three-pointer and then scored nine more points over the next ten minutes for 23 points, leading the Hawks to ten-point lead over the Dolphins at halftime.
Hunter stayed up by double-digits for all of the third, but the Dolphins cut the lead to just eight points with four minutes to play in the fourth.
Selina Lim responded with a basket from behind the arc, while Conway and
Theresa Leung all scored to hold onto the advantage, eventually taking the game, 71-62.
Aponte finished with 30 points and five steals, followed by Conway's 16 points. Arias led the team on the board, earning 13 rebounds, while Leung dished out five assists.
The team returns to action on Thursday, February 7 when they travel to Baruch College for a 5:30 p.m. game.
