Softball Sweeps Purchase in Wednesday Doubleheader

New York, N.Y. - Hunter College softball swept Purchase College on Wednesday in a doubleheader that featured scores of 12-4 and 10-6.

Hunter improved to 4-3 overall this season with the victories.

The Hawks went to work in the first inning as Brittney Salvador and Alana Vezza recorded hits to allow runners to score, giving Hunter the 2-0 lead. The Panthers got a run on the scoreboard in the third, but the Hawks managed two more runs to stay in control.

In the fourth inning Salvador earned a three-run homer to lengthen the Hunter lead, while Vezza, Gianna Raimondi and Samantha Molloy all scored for a 10-2 advantage.

The Purple and Gold finished off Purchase in the fifth when Allyson Bricker posted a single for an RBI and then scored on a wild pitch to secure the Hawks' 12-4 victory.

Salvador, Vezza and Raimondi led the team with three hits each. Nicole Guzzone got the win at pitcher for the Hawks.

Purchase got the early 5-0 lead in the second game, but Hunter began their comeback in the third inning when Salvador posted her second home run of the day. Erin Schweers then doubled for the Hawks to help them trail by just one going into the fifth.

The Hawks finally pulled ahead in the sixth inning when Caroline Bibula and Salvador each earned RBI's to make the score 7-6. Vezza confirmed the victory for Hunter when she posted a triple, while Bricker finished it off with another RBI to give the Purple and Gold the 10-6 win. Sarah Schor got the victory in the circle for the Hawks.

The team returns to action on Friday when they host John Jay College at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Randall's Island.
