Bronx, N.Y. - Hunter College softball fell in a doubleheader on Thursday evening, dropping the first game with a score of 7-4 and the second, 10-2.
The Hawks are now 7-6 after these non-conference losses, while the Violets improved to 12-5 overall this season.
Hunter took the first lead of the first game as
Alana Vezza,
Samantha Molloy,
Allyson Bricker and
Kayla Pilotti all got hits to allow runs to score as the Hawks led 4-0 in the third inning. NYU tied it up at 4 going into the sixth inning. From there the Violets scored three more runs to finish the game, not allowing the Hawks to catch back up to give them the 7-4 loss.
Erin Schweers and
Caroline Bibula led the squad with three hits each, while Molloy and Pilotti tallied two in the loss.
The Purple and Gold got on the board first again in the second game when
Brittney Salvador homered to right center for two RBI's. Unfortunately those would the last of Hunter's runs for the day as NYU scored ten times over the next four innings to get a 10-2 victory over the Hawks.
Schweers earned two hits in the loss, while Salvador, Vezza and
Brittney Fata all recorded one hit for Hunter in the game.
The team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
