Staten Island, N.Y. - Hunter College softball got a win over the College of Staten Island on Saturday for the first time since the 2016 season, defeating the Dolphins with a score of 4-2 before falling 2-0 in the second game.
The Hawks are now 8-7 and 5-1 in conference play, while CSI is 5-11 and 5-1 in the CUNYAC.
The Dolphins scored a run in the first inning before finding their second run of the day in the fifth inning to lead 2-0. The Purple and Gold got their chance to catch up in the seventh when
Caroline Bibula reached due to an error, allowing
Kayla Pilotti and
Gianna Raimondi to get to home base and tie the game.
Brittney Salvador and
Colleen McCoy came through for the Hawks, each getting big hits to put the Hawks in the lead and win the game.
Alana Vezza and Raimondi led the team with two hits each, while Bibula got the win as pitcher.
Hunter dropped the second game with a score of 2-0 as the Dolphins recorded two runs in the fifth inning. The Hawks were unable to get on the board in the loss, depsite hits from Bibula, Salvador and
Allyson Bricker.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, April 9 when they travel to Old Westbury.
