New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's soccer finished up the opening weekend of 2019 on Saturday with a loss to SUNY Cobleskill, dropping the game with a score of 3-1.
The Hawks are now 0-1-1 after tying Fredonia State yesterday in their season opener.
The Fighting Tigers took control early by scoring in the first 15 minutes of the first half. They quickly scored again just nine minutes later to take advantage of the game with a score of 2-0.
The Purple and Gold began to catch up in the second half when
Jesus Patino Muniz scored on a penalty kick, helping Hunter to trail by just one goal with plenty of time on the clock. Cobleskill responded immediately with a fast break down the field, finding the back of the net less than a minute later to lengthen their lead.
Hunter was unable to match the points in the remaining time and dropped the game, 3-1.
The Fighting Tigers recorded 17 shots, while the Hawks found eight. Hunter goalkeeper
Antony Simos finished with six saves in his first game of his sophomore campaign.
The Purple and Gold return to the field on Wednesday, September 4 when they travel to Montclair State University for a 7 p.m. game.
