New York, N.Y. - Despite getting a win in the third set, Hunter College women's volleyball fell in four to SUNY New Paltz on Thursday night at the Sportsplex (14-25, 22-25, 30-28, 19-25).

The Hawks are now 2-4 overall this season, while New Paltz improves to a 5-3 record.

Hunter fell behind early in the first set as New Paltz managed a convincing 25-14 victory. Things looked similar in the second when the Hawks fell behind 17-7, but then went to work, going on an amazing 11-3 run to trail by just two points. Kills from Kylie Hurst and Rodica Nedea helped Hunter make the score 23-22, but New Paltz pulled out the last two points to get the second set win, 25-22.

Hunter immediately took control in the third, jumping out to a 7-4 edge and maintained the lead until New Paltz finally tied it up 18-18. Nedea found two-straight kills to give the Hawks an advantage, but New Paltz responded with two kills of their own and then pulled ahead, 24-21. Four-straight New Paltz errors gave Hunter back a one-point lead and from there the teams tied the score four different times. At 28-28, Mariam Ouattara recorded a huge kill and then Hurst tallied a service ace to give the Purple and Gold the 30-28 win.

New Paltz took the early advantage in the fourth, 6-1, until the Hawks found a way to take a 10-9 lead. New Paltz went on to outscore Hunter 8-1 and never looked back, taking the fourth 25-19 to win the match, 3-1.

Hurst earned a team-high 13 kills, while Isabelle Lawrence found eight and Nedea chipped in seven. Summer Magliochetti recorded 30 assists in the loss and Sunghee Cho registered a match-high 20 digs.
