Riverdale, NY – The men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss earlier this afternoon against the Violets of NYU at Gaelic Park. The loss brings the Purple and Gold's record to 1-5-1 overall while NYU moves to 2-4-1.
The hosts jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute of the game. Owen Smith fired a shot on Hunter's goal and then picked up the rebound to find the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Hawks managed three shots on goal in the first half but none were on target.
In the second, once again the Violets scored early on. Less than four minutes into the second act, NYU's Oliver Kleban slipped a shot past Hunter's goalkeeper,
Antony Simos, to put his team up 2-0. Of Hunter's four shots in the second half, three of them were on target but were stopped by the opposing keeper.
Jesus Patino Muniz,
Moctar Zorome and
Mikael Young-Malka were the lone three to register shots on goal. In the 78
th minute, Victor Kang added a third and final insurance goal to put the final score out of reach, 3-0.
Simos made five saves in the loss while the Hawks recorded two corner kicks. The Purple and Gold are back in action on Wednesday, September 25 when they resume CUNYAC action against Brooklyn College at Randall's Island at 3pm.
