Galloway, N.J. - Hunter College fell in a non-conference contest on Thursday evening to Stockton University in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19.
The Hawks are now 6-7 overall this season, while the Ospreys improved to 14-2 and won their seventh-straight match. Hitting errors plagued the Hawks, who posted a .098 hitting percentage, while Stockton recorded 12 blocks in the match.
Hunter fell behind 12-5 in the first set but then went on a huge run to tie it up. During the streak, the Hawks found kills from
Isabelle Lawrence,
Ariana Silva and
Mariam Ouattara to help them score seven-straight points.
The Ospreys responded by outscoring the Purple and Gold 8-1 and then closing it out with three-straight points to get the 25-16 win.
Stockton went on a massive nine-point run to jump out to a 10-1 advantage in the second set. Lawrence found two kills for the Hawks to spark four-straight points towards the end of the set but it was not enough to stop Stockton from taking the second, 25-15.
Hunter took a 7-5 lead in the third and continued to lead off a kill from Ouattara and a service ace from
Kylie Hurst, 9-6. The Ospreys took a 10-9 edge, but two kills from Ouattara kept the Hawks close. The Ospreys began to break away and eventually secured the victory by outscoring the Purple and Gold 5-2 for the win.
Outtara led the team with nine kills, followed by Hurst's six in the loss.
Justine Smith registered 21 assists, while Hurst added 10 digs in the match.
The team will return to action on Saturday when they take on #20 nationally ranked Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. The Hawks will then face Susquehanna University at 5 p.m. in a tri-match in Selinsgrove, PA.
