New York, NY – The women's basketball team extended their win streak to three after downing CCNY earlier this evening at the Sportsplex. The Hawks (9-6, 5-1 CUNYAC) came out firing on all cylinders and put the game away early and finished off with a 108-42 victory.
The Purple and gold had nearly all players score at least one point in the lopsided affair.
Janine Conway scored a career high 35 points on 13-24 shooting from the field and recorded a double-double with 10 boards to compliment her offensive output. The offensive output also put her at the 1,000th career point plateau. Both
Theresa Leung and
Phoebe Valenton registered in the double figures, scoring 18 and 10 points respectively.
As a team, the Hawks bested the Beavers in nearly every major statistical category. They also set team highs in points scored, field goals made (43) and assists (34).
Despite CCNY scoring the first point of the game, it's the only lead they enjoyed and the only point they scored through the first 5:17 of the opening quarter. A 24-3 Hunter run proved crippling and by the time the first quarter concluded, the hosts enjoyed a 31-8 lead.
The offensive intensity kept up and Hunter scored another 33 in the second to take a 46 point lead by the time halftime hit.
Despite slowing down in the second half, Hunter still managed to get everyone from the team playing time. They eclipsed the 100-point plateau in the fourth with 3:49 left to play after
Nicole Ballin connected on a layup. Their largest lead of the game was its highest at 69 points en route to the victory.
The women's basketball team is back in action on Friday, January 17 when they travel across town to take on the Bloodhounds of John Jay in a conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for a 6pm start.
