New York, NY – The men's basketball team suffered a 76-54 loss on Friday evening to John Jay in CUNYAC contest. Hunter (3-13, 3-4 CUNYAC) had a sluggish start in the early stages of the game and were unable to climb out of the hole over the remainder of the game.
George Keener led the way for Hunter with 14 points and nine boards, one shy of a double-double. Meanwhile,
Danny Fusco,
Judah McIntyre and
Jonah Bevacqua all had 13 points in the loss. The Hawk's starting five accounted for 58 of their 64 points while as a whole, they took care of the basketball, turning it over just 10 times while registering seven steals and forcing 14 John Jay turnovers.
The Purple and Gold missed on their initial five attempts from the floor while the hosts knocked down a pair of triples and two deuces to make it a 10-0 affair in the opening 3:04. Bevacqua stopped the bleeding with two made free throws. A deuce and three the hard way from McIntyre, coupled with a Keener make brought the Hawks to within three at 19-16. However, they headed into halftime facing a nine point deficit.
Hunter had a much more efficient and productive second half, scoring 14 mores points compared to the first and shot over 36 percent from the floor and knocked down four of nine from deep. However, another sluggish start to the half resulted in a 13 point deficit until a triple from
Jared Brown put a band aid on the situation. However, the uphill battle proved too steep to overcome after facing a deficit that grew to as much as 20 points. A three from
Melvin Collins with 21 seconds put a cap on the game as Hunter fell 76-64.
