Brooklyn, NY – The women's basketball team took on the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Friday evening in a CUNYAC contest. The Hawks faced struggles in the opening minutes and were unable to dig themselves out of an early hole, eventually falling by a final score of 82-42.
Theresa Leung and
Kristina Krslovic had an even split of 18 points to lead the Hawks (11-9, 7-3 CUNYAC) while teammate
Isabella Santos added seven points.
Maya Thompson grabbed a team-high seven boards in the loss.
Krslovic nailed a triple for the Hawk's first points of the game, and then she was followed up by a deuce from Thompson to even the score at five apiece early on, but Hunter failed on each of their ensuing attempts from the field the rest of the quarter and only knocked down three free throws. Through the initial 6:16 of the second quarter, a layup from
Janine Conway was the only basket they were able to register. As their struggles continued, they found themselves down 46-16 at the halfway point.
In the second half, despite doubling the amount of made field goals and three pointers, and out-scoring the hosts by a bucket in the second, the deficit proved too much to overcome. The Purple and Gold managed just another eight points in the third quarter while the Bulldogs played an even game throughout, resulting in the lopsided defeat.
The Hawks are back in action on Thursday, February 6 when they travel south on Lexington Ave to take on CUNYAC rivals, Baruch College. Tip-off is for 5:30 pm.
