Men's Volleyball Shuts Out Ramapo, 3-0

The Hawks move to 6-3 overall

New York, NY – The men's volleyball team chalked up fifth shutout victory of the season earlier this evening against non-conference opponent, Ramapo College. The Hawks were in control from the start and took care of business with scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16 to advance their record from 6-3 overall.

As a team, the Purple and Gold hit .370, hammering home 35 kills on 73 attempts with just eight errors. Christian Maisonet and Qendrim Shala had an even split of 20 kills and combined for 11 digs in the victory. Alec Helford filled the stat sheet with a game high 32 assists, three block assists, one service ace and two digs while Cyrus De Guzman was solid defensively, adding three block assists and six digs.

Hunter led early on and went on a 9-1 run with the help of five errors from Ramapo to set the score at 12-3. Leading by 10 late in the set, each team traded five points until Blake Hogan put down the 24th point with a kill and De Guzman followed it up with a block for the first set win.

The Hawks found themselves down 3-0 in the second, but bounced back with five unanswered points and bookending three Ramapo errors with two Hunter kills. With the visitors down one at 13-12, the Purple and Gold threw down six straight points and out-scored their challengers 12-5 over the final stretch to go up 2-0.

The Roadrunners did not go away easily, slamming home five straight kills to go up 9-5 in the third set. However, it was short lived as Hunter turned the four point deficit into a 20-16 advantage. They closed with five straight points, capped with a Helford service ace.

Hunter returns to action on Thursday, February 13 when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 6pm in a non-conference matchup.
