Glenside, PA – The men's volleyball team split a tri-match this weekend, falling to host Arcadia by a score of 3-1 but bouncing back with a 3-0 shutout over Rosemont College. The Hawks move to 5-3 overall on the season.
Arcadia Recap (3-1 Loss; 18-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22)
Qendrim Shala and
Blake Hogan led the offense for the Hawks combining for 21 of the team's 39 kills and tallying a total of 16 digs.
Alec Helford had the setting duties on the day and registered 31 assists and six digs while
Cyrus De Guzman and
Christian Maisonet posted seven kills apiece.
In the first set, the Hawks took an early lead after De Guzman served an ace to make it 10-5. The lead grew to seven at the 15-8 mark but the hosts scored three unanswered to make it a four-point set. A Hogan kill sparked three unanswered Hunter points to bring the lead back up to seven. Maisonet hit home two kills in the Hawk's final three points to give his team the 1-0 lead.
The second set featured 10 ties and game that went back and forth through the end. A Shala kill coupled with two Arcadia errors gave Hunter a 12-9 lead, but the hosts responded with a 7-1 run to go up by three. Back-to-back kills from De Guzman sparked four unanswered points to bring the Hawks back in the game and allowed them to go up by one at 19-18. However, Arcadia closed on a 6-1 run to even the score at 1-1.
The third was highlighted by a crippling 12-1 Knights run. The Purple and Gold would cut the deficit down to seven but it's as close as they would get and fell behind two sets to one. In the fourth and what would be final set, the Hawks fell behind early once again at 6-1 and 14-7. Four straight late points brought them to within two of the home team, but it wound up being too little too late as they suffered the 3-1 loss.
Rosemont Recap (3-0 Win; 25-11, 25-6, 25-5)
Hunter Moran had a game high 10 kills while De Guzman followed with nine kills and
David Lou with eight.
Raymond Yu was charged with the setting duties and tallied 22 in the victory. De Guzman had five service aces in the win while
Klinger Ribeiro posted 10 digs. As a team the Purple and Gold hit .458, registering 34 kills with just seven errors on 59 attempts.
Trailing early 3-2, a Rosemont service error sparked nine unanswered Hunter points to put them ahead by eight. That, coupled with a 6-2 mid-set run proved to be more than enough to propel them to a 25-11 first set victory.
Hunter cruised in the next two sets in dominating fashion, outscoring Rosemont 50-11 and tallying 21 kills to their challenger's four.
Up next, the squad will host Ramapo College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, February 11 at 6pm.
