New York, NY – The men's volleyball team got back on the winning track earlier this afternoon after sweeping both John Jay and Brooklyn College in their second CUNYAC tri-match of the season. The victories boos their record to 12-7, 4-0 CUNYAC.
vs. John Jay – W, 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-17)
Blake Hogan had 12 kills on 28 swings to go along with his 12 digs in the win while
Sherrod Cole and
David Lou each chipped in with seven kills apiece.
Alec Helford had the setting duties on the day and registered 34 assists.
An early 8-2 Hunter run proved to be crippling to John Jay. The six point differential grew to as much as 13 at the 22-9 mark.
Qendrim Shala provided the final kill for Hunter to take the first set.
With the second set knotted at eight a piece, the Purple and Gold rattled off six unanswered points to take a 14-8 lead. Two late attack errors from John Jay gave the Hawks a boost toward the 25 point finish line where Lou registered the last kill.
The third set proved to be the closest, but Hunter was still in the driver's seat the whole way. Bookended by kills from Hogan, Hunter scored four unanswered points to reach match point. Hogan then finished the Bloodhounds off with a kill.
vs. Brooklyn – W 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-12)
Shala and
Christian Maisonet had an even split of 24 kills while
Chris Scandole added six of his own.
Raymond Yu was the setter for the match and tallied 33 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Leading 6-2 early on, Hunter added nine unanswered points to take a commanding 15-5 lead and cruised through to the end, concluding with kills from Maisonet and
Jben Mui.
The second and third sets played out similar with the Purple and Gold building a lead early on and never giving it up. They tallied 15 and 16 total kills respectively and hit over .300 as a team while their counterparts had a negative hitting percentage.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 7 when they host Lehman College in a CUNYAC contest. First serve is slated for a 6pm start.
