New York- The Hunter College women's volleyball team fell to Baruch College in tonight's cross-town match, 3-0.
Despite the conference loss, the Hawks (8-9, 4-1 CUNYAC) still remain in first place for the league. Baruch (7-9, 3-1 CUNYAC) is elevated to a three-way tie for second along with John Jay and Brooklyn, each of whom Hunter has defeated.
The Purple and Gold dropped the first set, 25-16, but fought back to take the first two points of the second. A back and forth battle ensued as the Hawks tied up the score after trailing by three or more on two separate occasions until ultimately falling to the Bearcats, 25-18. The Hawks played the entirety of the third set in a deficit as Baruch closed out the match with a 25-16 win.
Leading the team for the night was
Mariam Ouattara with nine kills, a service ace, and a pair of blocks. She was joined by CUNYAC Player of the Week,
Alexa Sayson, who posted another nine kills for the Hawks.
Hunter returns to the court this Saturday to host an out of conference tri-match. The squad takes on Montclair State at 10 a.m. followed by Mount Saint Mary College at 2 p.m.
