Flushing, NY – The women's tennis team continued their strong play earlier this afternoon with a convincing 8-1 win over SUNY Purchase. The victory pushes the Hawk's record out to 7-2 as they have the momentum of winning five of their last six heading into post-season play.
Hunter swept doubles and considerably won in each flight.
Zaara Afida teamed up with
Liliko Chung and won handily over Nikita Kordzielewska and Isabel Biaglotti, 8-1 at top flight doubles.
Yana Rabkova and
Angelina Catania won by the same score in second doubles while
Lily O'Heir and
Julia Winer blanked their opponents at third doubles.
Catania made her second appearance at top flight singles and once again was successful, defeating Kordzielewska, 6-3, 6-2. Rabkova was the lone loss for the Purple and Gold on the day, battling Olivia Menchell at second doubles 6-4, 1-6 and then falling 7-10.
Chung defeated her counterpart 6-1, 6-1 while
Mia Chan had a similar outcome, 6-1, 6-1 at third and fourth singles respectively. Rounding out the final two,
Marcia Postrygacz emerged victorious over Elaina Coppola 6-1, 6-3 while Samatha Salazar took Madeline Makowski to three sets at sixth doubles, and coming away with the victory, 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Up next the Hawks will compete in the CUNYAC Tennis Championship Tournament. The quarterfinal round will begin on Friday, October 22 with the semis on the 26
th. The championship will take place on October 29. Check
