Queens, NY – The women's tennis team snapped a three-game win streak after losing to Baruch by a score of 6-3. It's the first defeat in league action the Hawks have experienced as they move their record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks were able to grab a win in doubles action courtesy of Angelina Catanie and
Yana Rabkova. The duo out-played their Bearcat opponents, Lauren Kraker and Esther Benjamin by a score of 8-2 at second doubles.
Zaara Afida and Liliko chung were defeated 8-2 at top flight doubles while
Lily O'Heir and
Mia Chan fell in their match, 8-4.
Facing a 2-1 disadvantage, Hunter needed to come away with four wins in singles action to come out on top. Catania once again came through for her team. The freshman defeated Kraker in a three-set match at second singles, winning with scores of 6-0, 6-7, 10-4. Rabkova also took her Baruch challenger to three sets at third singles. She won 6-2 in the first, lost 5-7 in the second, but came out on top of a thrilling 16-14 third set for the Hawk's third and final win.
The Hawks return to the tennis courts next week on Saturday afternoon when they host the Cardinals of York College at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for a noon start.
