Flushing, NY - The women's tennis team blanked the Cardinals of York College earlier this afternoon in a CUNYAC matchup. The victory advances the Hawks to 6-2 overall and 4-1 CUNYAC while their counterparts slip to 0-1 on the year.
Zaara Afida and
Liliko Chung blanked their opponents at top flight doubles, 8-0 while
Alexandra Poulin and
Lily O'Heir overpowered Monique James and Geraldine Guese at second doubles, 8-1. There was no contest at third doubles.
In singles action the Purple and Gold went with a slightly different lineup.
Angelina Catania had top flight single duties on the day and impressed with 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over Guese. Similarly,
Julia Winer,
Laura Alvim and
Samantha Salazar all blanked their respective opponents 6-0, 6-0 from third through fifth singles.
Marcia Postrygacz dropped just two games to Nayelly Rojas at second singles but prevailed 6-2, 6-0 for the final win. There was no contest at sixth singles.
The women return to action on Wednesday, October 13 when they take on Ramapo College at the USTA National Tennis Center in a non-conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for a 3:30pm start.
