Women's Volleyball Concludes Season at ECAC Championship

The Hawks fell 3-0 to Rutgers-Camden.

Alfred, NY – The women's volleyball team took on Rutgers-Camden in the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament earlier this evening. The Hawks were edged in the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores and then fell in the third, 25-13 to bring their season to a close. With the loss, Hunter closes the 2021 campaign with a 13-14 overall record and a 5-1 mark in league action.

Alexa Sayson led the offense with nine kills on 22 attempts for a hitting percentage of .273 while Mariam Ouattara did her part with eight kills. The duo also combined for five of the team's seven service aces. Justine Smith posted a game-high 31 assists while Erin Hyman registered a team-high nine digs. As a unit, the Hawks tallied 37 total kills; two more than their counterparts. However, they committed 22 attack errors which prevented them from being on the winning side of the sets.

With the first set tied at 11 apiece, the Hawks fell behind slightly as the latter stage of the set approached. A late 5-1 Hunter run that was aided by two service aces from Hyman, brought the Hawks to within three at 23-20, but it's as close as they would get. The Raptors jumped out to the 1-0 lead after a 25-21 set victory.

Once again, the two teams found themselves tied late at 17-17. However, Hunter was unable to rally past the Raptors as the set came to a close. Rutgers-Camden stayed ahead by just a few points and went up 2-0 on another 25-21 victory.

In the third, a 10-1 Raptor run proved to be the deciding factor. The Hawks went cold over the home stretch and faced a 25-13 defeat to cap their season.
