New York- The Hunter College men's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent, Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, 100-96 on Wednesday night in the Hunter Sportsplex.
Freshman, Cormac Reilly, dropped seven threes in his 27-point night. He also had four steals and a pair of rebounds. Luka Jakic recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds; a season high in both categories.
Jeremy Montrose and Ryan Lau also had double digit nights, logging 13 and 11 points, respectively. Â
As a team, the Hawks shot just 40.2 percent from the floor, compared to the Devils' (2-2) 67.3. Hunter did out-rebound the visitors 42-32 while forcing an impressive 32 turnovers.
The first half showed four lead changes until the Hawks got ahead, 18-13. The Devils would then climb back to take the lead again the the 10th minute, 24-23. The visitors were able to separate themselves as Hunter found itself in a 46-41 deficit going into half time.
Trailing by as much as 17 at one point, the Hawks continued to push the pace and were able to tie the game up with eight minutes left to play as Jakic hammered a dunk from Hiroki Hamazaki.
The Purple and Gold found itself down but climbed within range once more as a three from Montrose put the score at 95-93 with just 30 seconds on the clock. Montrose would drop another three but FDU's five free throws would put them on top as the game closed out, 100-96.
The team returns to the court this Saturday (Nov. 20) for another non-conference matchup at SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 p.m.
