BOX SCORE Cobleskill, N.Y.- Cole Earley's over time buzzer beater against Cobleskill led the Hunter College men's basketball team to an overtime victory, 130-128.
A thrilling battle between the Hawks (2-3) and SUNY Cobleskill (0-5) started off slow, with the first points of the game coming two minutes in as Cobleskill hit two free throws. Hunter responded with an eight point run, marked by threes from Joash Nyarko and Earley.
The game remained close until the Hawks separated themselves with another eight point run to lead the Fighting Tigers, 22-13. The home team continued to pressure, coming back to reclaim the lead after nearly 12 minutes, 42-40. Hunter clawed its way back but another lead change occurred with just one minute remaining in the half as Colbeskill topped the Hawks, 54-53.
The teams continued to battle it out but a three from rookie standout, Cormac Reilly, put the Hawks up 56-55.
The Purple and Gold came out swinging against the Fighting Tigers, pulling out an 11-point lead early on in the second period, 71-60.
From there, Cobleskill would tack on six more points but it wasn't enough as the Hawks established an 18-point lead just five minutes into the half.
Over the next ten minutes, the home team would fight back, eventually evening the score with 5:33 left in play. The score was back and forth from there, as the two teams headed into overtime in a 117-117 stalemate.
The point exchange continued into OT, with Hunter logging six points off turnovers. Down two with six seconds left, Cobleskill knocked down a pair of free throws to tie up the game for what seemed like the end of the period, but a jumper in the paint by Earley as the buzzer sounded ended the game with the Hawks up 130-128.
Earley led the team with 20 points for the night, with Reilly just one behind him. Barret Lowe recorded a double-double for the night, logging 17 points and ten rebounds.
Four other Hawks finished with double digit points in Luka Jakic, Gene Propper, Casey Meyers and Jeremy Montrose.
Hunter returns to the court on Nov. 23 at Saint Joseph's Long Island.
