New York- The Hunter College women's basketball team defeated FDU-Florham, 54-47 at the Hunter Sportsplex on Thursday evening.
The Hawks (2-1) got on the board early as Nia Chung won the jump ball and Nina Hennesey drilled a three. Hunter continued to lead, going on a five-point run in the second period, to put itself up 20-12.Â
The Purple and Gold continued to dominate and closed out the half with a healthy 14-point lead, 29-15.Â
The Hawks would gain the largest lead of the game late in the third quarter as a three from Kristina Krslovic put them ahead, 37-20.Â
The Devils kept fighting, cutting the lead to five points with just one minute left in play, but it wouldn't be enough and Hunter secured the 54-47 win.Â
Stellar free throw shooting from the Hawks stood out as the team went 14-15 ahead of the Devils' 10-25. Kimberly Lau showed out, making all 10 of her free throws in her 17-point night.
Krslovic also went 3-for-3 from the line in addition to a pair of field golds and the aforementioned three as she logged the second most points on the team for the night, tied with Katie Burke.Â
On the defensive side, Burke also grabbed seven rebounds trailing only Chung who came away with nine for the night to lead the team.Â
Hunter College returns to the court on Nov. 22 in Hoboken, N.J. at Steven's. Tip off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
