Bronx, NY – Behind a sweep in doubles action and impressive singles play, the women's tennis team dominated hosts Lehman on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 8-1 win. The victory bumps the Hawks' record up to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
Each of the three doubles duos won their respective matches and did not drop more than two points.
Zaara Afida and Angelina Catanie won 8-2 in first doubles while
Yana Rabkova and
Liliko Chung blanked their counterparts at second doubles, 8-0.
Lily O'Heir and
Mia Chan added a tally to the win column with an 8-1 performance.
Afida was pushed to three sets from Lehman's Viola Avdyli. She won the first, 6-4 but fell 2-6 and 4-6 in a close third set resulting in Hunter's only loss on the day. Rabkova out-played Joanna Rosario at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-1 while
Angelina Catania emerged victoriously in back-to-back sets of 6-1 against Rita Rosario at #3 singles.
In their respective matches, Chung,
Bernice Shi and
Marcia Postrygacz all blanked their opponents with identical scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, September 29 when they travel north to face Brooklyn College in a conference contest. First serve is slated for a 3pm start.
