Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team outlasted the Cougars of Medgar Evers in a CUNYAC contest on Monday evening, 136-112, in which 13 different student-athletes logged points.
The Hawks (5-7, 1-2 CUNYAC) started play with a three from
Cormac Reilly but trailed the Cougars (2-8, 0-2 CUNYAC) for the next five minutes until another three from Reilly gave the visitors' the lead. From there, the Purple and Gold went on a 9-0 run and continued to dominate for the remainder of the period, heading into the intermission up, 77-41.
Reilly opened up the second half with another three-point field goal, and would lead all scorers for the night with 26 points. Midway through the second period,
Ryan Lau dropped one from behind the arc, followed by a steal from
Raheem Bakary as
Barrett Lowe drove in for a layup to give the Hawks' a 48-point lead over Medgar Evers.
Enzo Caceres-Roussel added on a pair of free throws as Hunter took an astounding 50-point lead, their largest against any opponent this season.
The Cougars were able to cut down the lead in the final minutes of play but it wasn't enough to offset the Hawks' pace as Hunter took the win.
Jeremy Montrose recorded a career-high 19 points in the conference win, while grabbing ten rebounds for a double-double, the second freshman on the team to accomplish the feat for the season. Every member of the Hunter College men's basketball team recorded points in the win, a credit to head coach,
John Pelin's, fast paced offense.
Hunter returns to the court on January 12 at John Jay College. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m.
