New York- The Hunter College men's basketball team dropped a 113-100 conference decision to the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Thursday evening.
The Bloodhounds got out to an 12-0 start but Hunter responded with a 15-point run of it's own in which six different Hawks contributed. The home team regained the lead and headed into the intermission up by 10. While Hunter trailed for a majority of the night, they led John Jay with a .35 three-point percentage in the opening half.
Play evened out in the second period, with Hunter dropping 49 points; only one behind its opponent, but could not put together a run and ultimately fell in the CUNYAC contest.
Hiroki Hamazaki led the team with 19 points on the night, a career-high for him, and a pair of steals.
Luka Jakic followed with 15 points and 15 rebounds for another double-double.
John Jay out rebounded the Hawks 64-61 overall, but Hunter managed 36 on the offensive side of the ball compared to the Bloodhounds 21, to register 27 second chance points over the home team's 19. The Purple and Gold also forced 28 turnovers including 17 steals to convert 33 points, leading John Jay in each category.
The Hawks return to the court on Saturday for another conference contest against Brooklyn College. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Hunter Sportsplex.
