New York- The Hunter College women's basketball team secured its first conference win over the City College of New York, 75-31, at home on Friday evening.
The Hawks (4-10, 1-4 CUNYAC) got off to a hot start, as Erin Cosio drilled a three immediately and Hunter took the lead and held it for the game's entirety. With senior, Kristina Krslovic, registering 13 points in the first half, Hunter led 40-24 heading into the intermission.
The Purple and Gold went on a 12-0 run to kick off the second half of play, and allowed just one basket from the Beavers (0-8, 0-4 CUNYAC) in the third quarter. The dominance continued in the fourth as Hunter tacked on an additional 18 points.
Erin Cosio recorded 12 points in the win, including four threes as she shot .44 from beyond the arc. Two others logged double-digits in Kimberly Lau, with 14 points to lead the team, and Katie Burke with 13 points and seven rebounds for the night.
Michelle Stuchl registered her first points as a Hawk with six in addition to her three rebounds.
Overall the Hawks outshot CCNY 31-11 and forced twice as many turnovers with 24. The team also grabbed 51 boards compared to the Beavers' 31.
Hunter returns to action on Jan. 22 at Westfield State. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
