Hunter Tripped Up Against John Jay at Home

New York- The Hunter College women's basketball team fell to John Jay College at home on Friday evening.

Despite the loss, three Hawks scored in double digits, including Nina Hennessy who led the team with 15 points and shot 71.4% overall with four three-point field goals. Kristina Krslovic logged 13 points and five assists, while Erin Cosio added 11 points of her own, with three from beyond the arc.

The Hawks (4-12, 1-5 CUNYAC) took the lead early one, with back-to-back threes by freshman, Eric Cosio, to put Hunter up 8-3. The Purple and Gold added to that lead for the remainder of the first period, to lead 21-11 at its conclusion. The Hawks held that lead for the majority of the second period, in part due to an impressive four blocks by Nia Chung. The Bloodhounds were able to tie it up, 31-31 in the final minute of play but a jumper by Chung put the Hawks ahead to close out the half.

John Jay came out strong in the second half and surpassed Hunter with six minutes into play,  40-39. From there the Hawks kept battling but early foul trouble hindered their progress and the team was unable to take back the lead and ultimately fell, 69-59 in the conference competition.

The Hawks return to the court next week for another CUNYAC competition at Baruch College on Feb. 3. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
