New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team shut out CCNY in a conference home match up to celebrate Senior Day at home.
Each of the team's seven seniors started in the game, with the exception of an injured
Blaise Enama who despite his absence today has made a major impact on the Hawks' program over his four year career.
In the backfield,
Erick Sanchez logged his first career start. along with four year starter and captain,
Regis Enama, who recorded two shots in the win.
At midfield,
Mikael Young-Malka had his fifth start of the season and played for a full 90 minutes as he celebrated a three year run with the Hawks.
Sammy Ahmed led the team with three attempts in the match. The Deer Park native has started in each match this year. Up top Josh Ilyadzhanov started the match off, logging 48 minutes on the pitch.
In the net
Antony Simos, four year member of the team, recorded three saves in the win for his final regular season home game of his career.
It was a quiet match overall, with only seven combined shots on goal for both teams. Hunter was able to capitalize on the Beaver's mistakes in the backfield with six total corner kicks. Finally,
Bradley Espejo netted the lone goal of the game for Hunter of off a penalty kick, following a yellow card issued to CCNY.
The win pushes Hunter to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC play.
The team looks to push the winning streak to three as they travel to John Jay for another conference game on Oct. 19th. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
