Queens, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team closed out regular season play at John Jay with a 2-2 tie. This brings the Hawks overall record for the 2022 season to 7-7-1 overall and 4-2-1 in CUNYAC play.
Hunter got on the board first in quick fashion, as
Ahmed Abukar netted the first goal of the contest four minutes into the frame to give the Purple and Gold the early 1-0 advantage. The Bloodhounds nearly tied the scored in the 13th minute but goal keeper,
Matthew Heimowitz was there to make the save. Abukar went for a second attempt in the 16th minute as he slipped past the defense but John Jay's keeper was able to save the shot.
In the 31st minute of play, John Jay responded and evened the score to 1-1. The Hawks answered back in the second half, as
Sammy Ahmed was able dial one up from nearly midfield after stealing the ball away in the 53rd minute of play to put Hunter up, 2-1.
With 14 minutes remaining in the contest, John Jay was able to secure the tying score and finish the game in a draw, the Hawks' first of the season.
The Hawks out shot the Bloodhounds, 14-12 overall. In the net, Heimowitz logged a pair of saves in the tie.
Hunter looks to the post-season next, with CUNYAC playoffs slated to begin on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
