Queens, NY - At the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Queens, the Hunter College Hawks took home a 5-1 victory over John Jay to advance to the CUNYAC Finals.
Starting off in doubles play Hunter jumped out to a 2-0 team lead with wins at #2 and #3 doubles. The #2 pairing of Agelina Catania and Sevinch Rakhmatdinov won 8-0 against their John Jay foes. In similar fashion #3 doubles
Anna Chapko and
Mia Chan won 8-0. John Jay struck back and took home the win at #1 doubled besting Hunter's partners
Zaara Afida and
Nikhar Rathi 4-8.
With the playoff rules of the first team to 5 points, the race was on when all of the singles matches began. Hunter's #2
Angelina Catania continued her steller play with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while #4 Singles Freshman
Anna Chapko shined in her post season debut with a 6-0,6-0 win. Chapko did not drop a game on the day in singles and doubles play. Taking home the final point for Hunter was
Mia Chan at #5 singles who won 6-0, 6-0.
Hunter earned a trip back to the Championship in a rematch of last year vs Baruch. The CUNYAC championship will be at the National Tennis Center on Thursday October 27th with first serve set for 3pm.
