BOX SCORE St. Mary's City,MD- The Hunter Hawks Women's basketball team notched their first win of the season with an 82-66 win over the University of Pittsbugh-Bradford at the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks classic. The Hawks had 3 players finish in double figures and all 5 starters collected at least 7 points.
Senior
Kimberly Lau led the Hawks with 18 points on 5-9 shooting, connecting on 3-4 3's. She also picked up 4 assists and 4 rebounds, to go along with a game high 5 steals. Freshman Alexa Charles continued her standout play finishing the game 8-12 from the field for a total of 17 points. The freshman from Sleepy Hallow High school is leading the hawks in scoring this year with 19.5PPG.
Sophomore guard
Erin Cosio injected the Hawks offense with her three point shooting and ability to get to the line. The new jersey native finished with 14 points on 2-5 from three, and going 6-6 from the free throw line. Fellow freshman Kennedy DeRuy made her first start and proved that her efficiency was key for the hawks, grabbing 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 points on 3-6 shooting from beyond the three point line. Nia Chung led the hawks with 14 rebounds, while also chipping in 7 points.
As a team the Hawks shot a season high 44% from the field, while also grabbing 39 rebounds, forcing 13 steals and creating 16 assists. Hunter returns to action on Saturday November 12th at 3pm in the Seahawk classic championship game against St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
