BOX SCORE New York,NY - The Hunter College Women's Basketball team continued it's 4 game winning steak with an 86 - 67 win over Lesley in the opening round of the Hunter College Tip off tournament.  In the earlier game Westfield State beat Umass- Boston 72-62.

The Hawks had 4 players in double figures led by Kimberly Lau's 23 points, Lau also dished out 8 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds to fill out the stat sheet.  Sophomore guard Erin Cosio scored 22 off the bench, shooting 5-9 from 3, and 5-6 from the line.  Katie burke had a very efficient 11 points on 4-7 shooting, with 4 steals and 5 boards.  Freshman Alexa Charles narrowly missed her second career triple double when she had 11 points, 15 steals and 9 rebounds, she chipped in with 5 assists.  

Hunter forced 33 turnovers with 25 steals as a team, despite being out rebounded by 4 the Hawks did grab 22 offensive rebounds.  THe Hawks shot 38% from the field, 43% from 3 and 79% from the free throw line.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair with the teams trading early baskets, Hunter grabbed a short lived 5 point lead but scoring the final 4 points of the quarter Lesley closed the quarter down by 1, 14-15.  In the beginning of the second quarter the teams continued to trade baskets, with 7:35 to go Erin Cosio hit her second three of the game to put the Hawks up 5 and started a run,  The Hawks extended their lead out and closed Half time up 41-24.

At the 8:45 mark of the 3rd quarter the Hawks opened up their biggest lead of 22 with a 47-25 lead, but Lesley came right back with a 14-2 run to cut the lead down to 10. The Hawks responded and never allowed the lead to get back under double digits.  Hunter will tip off vs Westfield state in the tournament championship game at 3pm.
