BOX SCORE Brooklyn, NY - In a rematch of the championship game of the Seahawk classic from just two weeks ago the Hunter College Hawks traveled to St, Joseph's home court in Brooklyn. In a game that was back and forth all game featured 14 total lead changes, the Hawks grabbing the largest lead of 9 points in the 3rd quarter.
In the first half no one took a lead of more than 6 points, with the Bears finishing the first quarter with a 21-18 point lead. THe Hawks answered back in the 2nd quarter to go into half time with a 4 point half time lead.
Hunter's five starters all had an impact on the box score, each finishing with double digits scoring. Freshman
Kennedy DeRuy scored a career high 19 points, leading the Hawks, right behind was fellow first year
Alexa Charles whi scored 18 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and 6 steals. Senior
Nia Chung had one of the best statistical games of her career for Hunter with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks.
Katie Burke chipped in with 10 points, on 5 of 9 shooting, while Senior
Kimberly Lau scored 11 with 6 assists.
In the second half Hunter pushed out to their biggest lead with Sophomore
Erin Cosio sank a free throw with 6:45 in the thris to go up 9. but St. Joseph's went on a 15-4 run over the next 4 minutes with knock the lead down to 1. Hunter responded pushing the lead back to 6 to end the third quarter,
In the 4th St, Joseph's knocked down a 3 to cut the lead in half, and neither team grabbed a larger lead that 3 the rest of the way, With the game finishing tied at 74 to end regulation, the Bears outscored the Hawks 9-6 in Overtime, and took home the win 83-80.
Hunter did share the ball well with 22 assists on 32 field goals, they also grabbed 55 rebounds and forcing 18 steals. However shooting woes limited the Hawks as they finished 6-27 from 3 for 22% and 10-19 from the free throw line for 53%.
Hunter returns to action at the Sportsplex on Friday 12/1 vs Baruch College for the first CUNYAC game of the year for both teams. Tip-off is at 5pm
