New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team opened up CUNYAC play on Friday evening at the Hunter Sporsplex as they hosted Baruch College in their annual homecoming game. The Hawks fell 96-107 and drop to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Bearcats improve to 5-1 (1-0 CUNYAC).
Luke Jakic got on the board first, opening the game with a jumped for the Hawks. The Bearcats responded with a three to take the lead and would be able to hold it from there. Hunter trailed by as much as 17 in the opening half but were able to cut the deficit to 54-44 heading into the intermission as
Casey Meyers netted three consecutive free throws. The trend continued throughout the second period as Hunter was never able to fully recover, despite scoring 52 points in the second half, only one behind Baruch.Â
Five Hawks scored in double-digits for the night with
Devon Matthews netted 17 points including three from beyond the arc. Jakic followed with a near double-double of 16 points and nine rebounds, he also added a trio of blocks. Off the bench, Ernie Parada had his first career double-double grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 10 points. Donovan Cola added ten points of his own, as he went 4-5 from the field and 3-4 for three, while
Casey Meyers logged 14 points for the night.
The Hawks return to the court on Monday Dec. 5 at 6:00 pm as they travel to Manhattanville College.
