Seven Score in Double-Figures as Men's Basketball Drops Medgar Evers 125-88

New York, N.Y. - The Hunter College men's basketball team eclipsed the century mark for the ninth time this season, en route to a 125-97 win over Medgar Evers College on Tuesday.

The win moves the Hawks to 5-5 overall in CUNYAC action as they sit one game below .500 this season.

It was all Hunter in the early going of the contest, as a three-pointer by Ryan Lau at 11:55 made it a 15-point game in favor of the home team. The Cougars managed to stage a 25-11 run over the next six minutes that brought them within one of the hosts with the help of the three-ball.

Medgar Evers tied the contest with 2:32 left in the first half, but a 12-5 run to end the frame sent the Hawks into the locker room with a four-point lead. Hunter managed to capitalize on Cougar miscues in the opening half, scoring 19 points from turnovers while also getting 30 points from the bench.

Coming out of the break, the Hawks built a quick 11-point lead over the Cougars, who later found a way to cut their deficit to five, with 14:38 left on the clock. The home team scored 16 of the next 18 points in the contest, outscoring Medgar Evers 51-28 the rest of the way, resulting in a commanding 28-point victory.

The Hawks, who rank second in all of Division III in three-point field goal attempts and leads the CUNYAC with 742 made field goals, outshot the Cougars 110-88 and dominated on the glass, snatching 72 rebounds to the Cougars' 47.

Seven different Hunter players reached double-digit scoring with Lau leading the way with 21 points. He connected with 8-of-11 from the field with five of them landing beyond the arc. Casey Meyers and Cormac Reilly accounted for 14 and 13 points respectively, combining for 11 rebounds and five trifectas as Gene Propper and Raheem Bakary chipped in 12.

Notching his seventh double-double this season, Luka Jakic also scored 12 with a team-leading 16 rebounds.

Next up, the Hawks trip to Baruch for conference action on Thursday, Feb. 3.
