Jamaica, NY -The men's basketball team suffered a 105-90 loss to the York College Cardinals on Friday evening. Despite having four players score in double figures, it was a first half offensive struggle that ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. With the loss, the Hawks move to 11-12 overall and 6-7 in CUNYAC action.
Jeremy Montrose filled the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals while teammate Luka Jakic was one rebound shy of yet another double-double, with 14 points and nine boards. Gene Propper and Cormac Reilly chipped in with 12 points apiece.
It was only the fifth time the Hawks have been held to under 100 points all season. They struggled from behind the arc, knocking down just 15 of 63 attempts. On the defensive end, they tallied 19 steals and forced an impressive 35 turnovers.
At the 7:38 mark in the first, Barrett Lowe had a tip-in deuce to bring his team to within three. However, they went nearly scoreless over the ensuing 5:34 which left the flood gates open and resulted in a 17-1 York run. At the half, they were faced with a 55-37 deficit.
The point differential grew to as much as 31 at its highest in the second. Despite closing the game on a 17-3 run over the final 3:02, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome, resulting in the 105-90 loss.
The squad returns to action on Tuesday, February 15 when they head uptown to CCNY for a league game. Tip-off is slated for a 7pm start.
