Big First Half Propels Women's Basketball Over Lehman, 78-60

The Hawks cap the regular season and will begin play in the conference tournament this weekend.

Bronx, NY - The women's basketball team capped the regular season this evening with a convincing 78-60 win over Lehman College. The victory was aided by two explosive offensive quarters, and a 32-point performance from Kristina Krslovic. The Hawks advance to an overall record of 9-13 and 6-6 in league action. They are currently tied with York College for the #4 seed in the CUNYAC Tournament. The league office has six criteria to break a tie, but both Hunter and York are equal in all categories. The result will be a coin flip to determine the higher seed and will take place tomorrow morning.

Krslovic dropped a game and career high 32 points on 12-23 shooting from the field which included going 7-14 from the three point line. Kimberly Lau also had an impressive game, added 17 points while Morgan Gress registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Defensively, the team forced 27 turnovers and tallied 14 steals while matching their opponents at an even rebounding clip of 38 grabbed misses each.

Hunter wasted no time getting on the board and quickly built a 10-point lead. Lehman hung around and pulled within four but six straight points from Krslovic and a bucket from Eliah Yode to close the quarter put the Purple and Gold ahead by 12 heading into the second. There, they used an 8-0 run which was helped by back-to-back triples from Nina Hennessy, made it a 20-point affair; a margin that would hold through the end of the half.

In the third, Hunter's offense cooled off and managed to connect on just four field goals. Despite being out-scored by nine, they still held an 11 point advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. For over eight minutes in the final quarter, Lehman was held to just two points while Hunter capitalized and rattled off 13 of their own to put the game out of reach. They led by 22 with just under two minutes to play and it proved to be more than enough as they closed the books on the regular season with a win.
