Jamaica, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's basketball team defeated fourth seeded York College in the first round of the City of New York Athletic Conference playoff tournament on the road Sunday afternoon.
Senior,
Kristina Krslovic led the team with 11 points including a 3-6 three-pointer performance. She also grabbed six boards and had seven assists in the win.
Nia Chung also had a stand-out night with 10 while
Kimberly Lau logged a career-high 10 rebounds on the day.
Hunter came out strong, edging a six point led just three minutes into play. The team held the led for the remainder of the first period and much of the second until York tied in up with four minutes left the play. The two teams would battle for the lead for the rest of the half, ultimately heading into intermission tied at 27-27.
Not giving up, the Purple and Gold put up an impressive 21 points in the third quarter where they held their largest lead of yet, as
Morgan Gress hit a three with one minute left in the period. From there, Hunter continued to dominate for the remainder of the game, going up by as much as 18. Although the Cardinals outscored the visitors, 13-7 in the final quarter of play. it wasn't enough as Hunter knocked York out of the tournament.
The 55-47 win pushes the Hawks into the second round where they will face off against no. 1 Brooklyn College in the semifinals on Tuesday.
