Men's Volleyball Falls to Kean, 3-0

The difference on the stat sheet came down to errors

New York, NY - The men's volleyball team took on Kean University for the second time this season with the hopes of evening the score, but the outcome proved to be the same, 3-0 in favor of the Cougars. With the loss, the squad continues to search for their first win, dropping to 0-5 on the season.

Ted Kim and Sherrod Cole led the way offensively for the Hawks, tallying eight kills on 18 attempts apiece. Teammate Gabe Mendoza added six kills and four digs on the evening. Defensively, Chris Scandole tallied nine digs while Cooper Moran had the setting duties and notched 21 assists.

The Hawks faced a 12-5 deficit in the first. Despite a late run to pull within three, the team ran out of real estate and fell 25-17 to go down 1-0. In the second set, Kim hammered home a kill to break a 4-0 Kean run at the 15-9 mark. They then put together a 7-1 run of their own to pull within one late at the 19-18 point. However, facing set point, a kill from Cole and service ace from Andrew Reza kept the Purple and Gold in it, but Kean's Quincy Rooi came through with the Cougar's 25th point to win the set.

Things looked different in the third; Hunter came out with an 8-1 run which gave them a 10-5 advantage. Kean slowly chipped away and knotted the game at 21-21. However, the Purple and Gold were unable to hold on to the end, falling in the final set 25-22.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 1 when they take on John Jay in their first league match of the season. First serve is at 6pm.
