New York, NY - With a big second half performance, the men's basketball team bounced back from a nine point, halftime deficit to win 113-104 over St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn in a non-conference meeting earlier this evening. The win puts the Hawks closer to .500 as they move to 10-11 overall while their league record remains at 5-6. This is the 16th game this season where they have scored at least 100 points.
Cormac Reilly was the Hawk's top scorer with 26 points on 10-22 from the field and 6-16 from downtown.
Luka Jakic registered his second straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while
Jeremy Montrose added 13 points and
Ryan Lau with 10 in the win. The Hawks made 19 three pointers in the game, shot 42% in the second half and had 80 bench points, 41 points off turnovers and 40 fast break points to help secure the victory.
A triple from
Jared Brown gave the Hawks their first lead of the game at the 16:21 mark. They led by as much as five at one point but over a six and a half minute stretch, they managed just six points and were held scoreless for nearly four and a half minutes, resulting in a 14 point deficit. They. managed to cut it down to a nine point hole after
Hiroki Hamazaki made good on a fast break layup to end the half.Â
The Hawks opened the second with six unanswered to pull within three. After swapping leads multiple times, it was not until the 6:42 mark where the Purple and Gold began to pull away. A triple from
Casey Meyers sparked a massive 18-2 run which was capped by a
Joash Nyarko fast-break layup with 2:54 showing on the clock. St. Joseph's was able to pull within eight with a minute left to play but it was not enough as the Hawks held on for the win.
The squad will resume action on Wednesday, February 9 when they hit the road for a league game against Brooklyn College at 7:15pm.
