Brooklyn, NY – For the 17
th time this season, the men's basketball eclipsed the 100 point plateau en route to a 100-105 win over Brooklyn College on the road. The victory pushed the Hawks overall record to 11-11 and 6-6 in league action.
It was a contest that featured hot shooting from both sides; Brooklyn posting a 51.3 shooting percentage and the Hawks a few ticks lower at 46.5 percent. Despite Hunter being out-rebounded by a significant 51-38 margin and having a 12 point differential at the free throw line, it was the 23 forced turnovers, 12 steals, and impressive 16 three pointers that contributed to the win.
Four players scored in double figures, led by
Gene Propper who was an impressive 6-11 from the floor and 4-8 from deep netted him 17 points. For the third consecutive game,
Luka Jakic registered a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Nine of
Cormac Reilly's 13 points came from the three point line while
Raheem Bakary added 10 in the win.
It was a surprising slow start to the game, with Brooklyn holding a slight 8-2 lead nearly four minutes in. The Hawks took their first lead when
Joash Nyarko connected on a three pointer to go up 27-26 with 6:56 showing on the clock. Down the stretch, Propper dropped a triple on the final possession to send the game into halftime with his team leading 43-41.
An 11-2 run to start the second act gave the Hawks an 11 point cushion off the start. They held the hosts to just seven points in the first four minutes while they tacked on 25. Hunter ballooned their lead to as high as 21 points at the 77-56 mark with 12:31 left to play. Brooklyn was able to chop the deficit down to six points with just over two minutes left to play, but the Purple and Gold held on to the end.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday, February 11 when they travel to Jamaica, NY to take on the York College Cardinals in their second to last game of the regular season. Tip-off is at 7pm.
