New York, NY - The women's basketball won their second straight this evening after defeating Lehman College by a score of 70-48. It also marks the second consecutive game they have won by a margin of 22 points. With the win, Hunter moves to 6-12 overall and improve to 3-5 in league action.
Maya Thompson took care of business on both ends of the court, scoring a team high 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kristina krslovic and
Katie Burke added 10 points apiece while
Morgan Gress nabbed 11 boards, all defensive rebounds. The Hawks had a big first half, shooting 15-26 from the field and then lighting up the three point line in the second quarter, drilling five of six. Their bench came up big, accounting for 25 points in the win.
The Purple and Gold wasted no time from the tip, sinking three straight triples from
Erin Cosio and Gress to take an early 9-2 lead in the opening 2:10. They added a 9-0 run spanning nearly four minutes and headed into the second quarter with a comfortable 24-10 advantage.
In the second, the Hawks took just nine shots with six of them coming from behind the arc. They made five from downtown with
Nina Hennessy accounting for the first two. They pushed their lead to as much as 27 points and closed the half with a 42-17 upper hand.
On two occasions, Hunter led by as much as 34 points and out-scored the Lightning by three in the third quarter. In the final 10 minutes, Lehman managed 16 points to Hunter's 10 but it was not enough to overcome the point differential.
Up next, the Hawks will take on Brooklyn College on Wednesday, February 9 at 5pm. The game will be held on the campus of Brooklyn College.
