Brooklyn, N.Y. - Entering undefeated Brooklyn College on Wednesday, the Hunter College women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 12-point deficit at halftime, ultimately falling to the Bulldogs 55-72 inside the West Quad Center.
For Hunter (6-13, 3-6 CUNYAC),
Kristina Krslovic went 4-for-7 from the field with three three-pointers for a team-high 11 points while also pulling down five rebounds.
Kimberly Lau and
Nia Chung chipped in 10 points apiece, combining for 13 boards with two trifectas apiece.
The home team saw two players account for 19 points as Gianna Gotti added a double-double with 11 assists and six rebounds. Gotti, who leads all of Division III in steals per game also accounted for six steals in the win. Brooklyn's Ericka James also chipped in 19 with the help of six three-pointers.
The teams got off to an even start, with the Hawks trailing just three points after the opening 10 minutes of play. Brooklyn turned up the pressure in the second frame, keeping Hunter to just three points as they added another 12 to their side of the scoreboard.
A 10-2 run in favor of Hunter through the third allowed them to cut the deficit to single digits with 4:55 left on the clock, but Brooklyn knocked down three threes to extend their advantage to nearly 20.
Despite outscoring the Bulldogs 23-22 in the final quarter, Hunter was unable to overcome the margin, falling 72-55 as a result.
With the victory, Brooklyn clinches first place in the regular season CUNYAC standings and will be the #1 seed in the conference tournament.
The Hawks continue their road swing with a contest at York College on Friday, Feb. 11. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
